This month, we were extremely excited to learn that Melbourne has been voted
Australasia's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination in the 2013 World Travel
Awards. This means the city’s facilities, service providers and attractions have
once again managed to outshine the rest of Australasia in providing unique and
professional experiences for international meeting and business events.
We are also pleased to share MCB’s recent business development activity, such as
showcasing Melbourne at international trade shows and the addition of new staff.
IMEX America and BestCities Client Workshop
To develop international business for Melbourne from North America, MCB’s General
Manager, Business Development and Bids, Julia Swanson, attended IMEX America.
Held in Las Vegas, the event attracts thousands of Hosted Buyers and media, and Julia
and our North American team worked hard in promoting our city’s services to the
international meetings market. Relationships established at IMEX have the potential to
be very lucrative for Melbourne as it is often here meeting planners decide on the
destination for their next conference.
Julia also showcased Melbourne to medical association clients as part of the Best
Cities Client Workshop held in Houston. The last workshop was hosted by MCB, whereby
nine partner cities brought seven major international clients to Melbourne.
Melbourne Planners' Guide
In early November, keep your eyes peeled for the release of MCB's 2013-2014

industry. The comprehensive Guide offers planners a directory of the best business
events products and services located in Melbourne and regional Victoria, including
venues; accommodation; conference and event organisers; conference and exhibition
support services; regional products and services; leisure products and services; and
pre and post touring options.
